Carbon Footprint Calculation Methodology

Objectives
This carbon calculator can help identify your personal carbon emissions from your daily routine. Set your carbon reduction goal according to your needs and move steadily towards low-carbon living.


Scope
This is a personal carbon footprint, which the carbon emissions are calculated from everyday activities including the following:

  1. Home energy usage (e.g. electricity, town gas, LPG) and water consumption
  2. Local transportation
  3. Air travel for leisure and personal reasons
The carbon emissions you indirectly produce due to product or service consumption are excluded in this calculation, such as when you're shopping in an arcade or conducting business in a government office.


Calculation method
This calculation formula was developed by a local university. It covers most carbon emissions figures in Hong Kong including published figures from Towngas and the two power companies.

What is a carbon footprint?

Our consumption of energy and resources in our daily life, both directly and indirectly, emits greenhouse gases such as CO2 into the environment. Your carbon footprint is the measure of the impact you have on the environment through the greenhouse gases you produce.
